Malibu Beach House
Malibu, CA
The purpose of the landscape design was to create a colorful garden contrasting with the newly-built home, tying together three oceanfront lots opposite a strip mall. Plant screening blocks views of the Pacific Coast Highway and also accentuates the distant chaparral. The garden utilizes drought-and-salt-resistant materials that have color, texture, and movement. An arroyo runs through the property, guiding rainwater through to the ocean; the bridge over the arroyo is a central feature of the design, physically and metaphorically connecting with the native landscape.
