Ojai Valley School

In December 2017, the Thomas Fire destroyed the Science & Technology Building and the Grace Hobson-Smith Girls Dormitory at the high school’s Upper Campus in Ojai. The Rebuild Project was initiated to replace these buildings and to add a new Commons Building planned prior to the fire. Pamela Burton & Company, in collaboration with Frederick Fisher and Partners, created an interactive campus and sustainable landscape that resonate with the school’s philosophy to encourage students to communicate, learn and enter into fellowship with each other and the land.

Ojai, CA

Native plant palettes including groves of Western Sycamores and Coast Live Oaks offer shade and protection from wind and restore the lost natural habitat. An amphitheater built into the hillside provides a gathering space for morning meetings and connects the surviving Humanities Building to the rebuilt Science, Commons and Dormitory facilities.
